xVOD – Streaming Video On Demand

Video on demand refers to any method of downloading digital video material on demand from an Internet provider or service or watching it directly via a video stream using appropriate software. For video streaming, i.e. reception in real time, fast broadband Internet access via fiber optic (~ 6 MBit/sec) is required.

 

The video is sent either over the Internet connection (like IPTV) or over a broadband network; The return channel through which the customer's program selection is transmitted to the backend is automatically available with an internet connection.

 

IDS also supports native hybrid receivers that are based on a proprietary operating system and are equipped with either a USB Wi-Fi dongle and/or an Ethernet port.

 

This latest solution from DishHome is the so-called xVOD feature, a video streaming service with an option to purchase that is implemented via the return channel.

 

For security reasons, the content is protected with DRM developed by IDS.
