Home Assistant is an open source project and forms the software basis for SmartBuddy. After your SmartBuddy has been integrated into your home network, the software HomeAssistant will start automatically.

Note

If the device starts with the AccessPoint during the initial start-up (no LAN cable connected), HomeAssistant is also started. In this case, however, all data loaded from the Internet is missing. We therefore recommend that you first connect the SmartBuddy to the home network before using it further.

Short introduction

In the meantime, there are many providers on the home automation market. Often you will find different protocols and systems that only take care of the light, or the heating, or the energy. And usually there is no way to control them together or to automate processes across systems. That is why there is the Home Assistant software. It connects and automates the devices as if they all belonged to the same system.
Many home automation products are recognised automatically, others can be added via the numerous Integrations. HomeAssistant creates two types of entries for all supported products: Devices and Entities. A device can have several entities, i.e. properties.
Entities
These entities can now be displayed on the dashboard with numerous display variants.
Radio
Both devices and entities can also be used in automations. These are the rules that Home Assistant uses to organise the Smart Home. organises. HomeAssitant provides a graphical automation editor for this purpose.
Some automations are already preset in the SmartBuddy, e.g. for the simulation of a motion sensor. In this case, the kitchen light is switched on or off when the motion sensor is activated.

Configuring your Home Assistant can sometimes take some time. But once you have set it up, you can control all of your devices easily from the Dashboard.
And of course you can also save your configuration in case something goes wrong. Home Assistant provides the Backup function for this purpose. You can use these backups to return to the current status.

Important note

We recommend that every user create regular backups of their system. These can cost some storage space. It is therefore advisable to delete older backups, delete older backups again. You can find this function in the Home Assistant settings menus.
