Overview energy management
Energy management is all about knowing how much energy you’re consuming, where it’s coming from and where it’s going.
First of all, it is necessary that you integrate all the devices into HomeAssistant that provide entities about the measured values.
Due to the large number of devices, different paths and protocols are often used for this. You can search directly for an Integration in HomeAssistant
directly, or look for solutions on the Internet.
Sometimes devices are also recognised by HomeAssistant immediately after they have been integrated into the home network, e.g. the WiFi-controlled 3-phase energy meter Shelly 3EM.
For the visualisation of the measurement data and the energy flow, Home Assistant provides its own dashboard, which you can access via the left menu bar.
During initial installation, you are guided through the configuration by selecting the entities for each measuring point. This is done for the areas:
- Power grid
- Solar panels
- Battery storage
- Gas consumption
- Water consumption
After selecting your entities, HomeAssistant automatically generates diagrams of energy consumption and distribution.
Please note that it takes some time (up to 2h) after the initial start-up until the first progress graphs are displayed.
